Summer
Program
Gwen's Girls
realizes that summer time brings many hours of unstructured
activity. Although summer is a time for relaxation and fun, at
Gwen's Girls summer camp is also a time for empowering girls through
gender-specific programs, education and experiences.
The curriculum for our eight-week summer camp,
Camp Destiny, is developed around a theme which addresses the ten
life domains. Previous themes included Health &
Wellness…from a Cross Cultural Perspective which focused on
a variety of health and wellness workshops, including a variety of
fun, healthy activities; Civic and Cultural Awareness which
provided an opportunity to advance the principles regarding
leadership and culture through enrichment experiences that promoted
active learning and community service.
And, of
course, what would a summer camp be without the usual summer
favorites? Our field trips include: swimming, taking in a Pirates
game, trips to Kennywood, Sandcastle Water Park, Laurel Caverns,
Idlewild Park, Wildwood, Funfest Entertainment World, Gateway
Clipper Tour, and Hershey Park. Last year's overnight excursion is
a sight-seeing trip to New York City which includes tickets to the
Broadway show, The Color Purple.
