Research shows that adolescent girls are a population at a considerable risk with few services available to address their needs.
Gwen’s Girls is a non-profit agency created to meet the needs of girls and young women in a holistic, comprehensive manner with a strengths-based approach. We work from a strength-based perspective to build on each girl’s personal strengths and provide opportunities and experiences for her to be successful.
Our Prevention Services are designed to assist and empower girls in their home communities to realize their strengths, to build a pathway for success and to become part of their community. All of our programs and services are created to educate, involve and improve each girl’s ability to achieve success as she faces a variety of challenges while growing and developing into adulthood.
We know that the more support we can offer to our girls, the better chance they have of realizing and reaching their potential. Therefore, we are committed to providing services and programs that are:
Focused on working with each girl’s family
Offered to the girls individually and in groups with peers
In partnership with other agencies and the girls’ communities
We enhance each girl’s existing strengths to give her a greater sense of her value, competency, confidence and motivation.
Our Prevention Services are open to girls who reside in the East End and Northside communities of Pittsburgh, PA. They may be referred by CYF (Office of Children, Youth and Families) or community agencies or they can be self-referred.
