After years of struggling to squeeze girls into prevention and delinquency programs designed for boys, agencies like Gwen's Girls are finding solutions that are gender-responsive. The programs are rooted in the real experiences of girls and incorporate an understanding of female development.
At the national, state and local levels, there is currently a movement to support gender-responsive programs to help at-risk girls get back on a positive developmental track. For a girl already in trouble or at high risk for delinquency, programs that incorporate gender-responsive practices offer hope for a positive future.
Adolescence is a very difficult time for girls, even in the best of circumstances. Girls with increased risk factors and minimal protective factors have a high risk of delinquency and academic failure. This affects not only the girl and her family, but the community as well.
As pioneers in the field of gender-responsive training, we live by one philosophy: Girls are our future. How we train them now has great implications for their families and our society. If a girl values education and becomes a self-sufficient and productive member of her community, these values will be passed on to her children, having a positive domino effect on future generations.
We are passionate about our mission, and we hope that you share in our passion. YOU have the power to change the life of a girl. With a donation, you are not only investing in girls but also in our future!
