After-School Program

In addition to the individual services we offer our girls, our After-School Program incorporates a group approach. Groups are important and influential factors in young girls' lives.

Our After-School Program is offered to the girls that we serve through our Prevention and Reunification Services and our Foster Care Program. Groups are opportunities for girls to interact with peers who have similar challenges and ambitions, get help with their homework, learn life skills, discover their unique talents and have fun. We know that a girl's peers are one of the major influences in her life. Providing girls with a safe environment in which to build healthy relationships can make all the difference when it comes to the decisions she makes and the future she chooses.

In our After-School Program, we provide psycho-educational/therapeutic groups, activities and experiences in a peer group setting. Topics covered are based on the 10 Life Domains. Subjects covered include: Healthy Relationships, Being a Girl, Body Image, Honoring Our Diversity, Expressing Individuality, Paths to the Future, Hygiene, STD and HIV Awareness, Nutrition, and more.

At Gwen's Girls, we also know that the more support we can offer to each of our girls, the better chance they have of realizing and reaching their potential. Other groups, workshops and projects offered in our After-School Program include:

  • Health and Wellness Education and Workshops
  • Mental Health Workshops and Educational Groups
  • Therapeutic Groups (e.g., grief and loss, sexual abuse, eating disorders)
  • Job Readiness Program
